This workshop is an introductory course covering how to make a drypoint etching on plexiglass and combine it with a surface roll to add color through monoprints.
Drypoint is a quick, non-toxic printmaking process similar to drawing that yields rich, line quality imagery, very similar to traditional acid etching! Not only will you learn this very traditional technique and how to use an etching press, but you will also learn how to modify your ink to get two (or more!) colors on one plate. Students should come ready with an idea for their image, preferably with photo references or drawing.
This course will cover
● creating an 8 x 10 drypoint etching using plexiglass
● mixing ink and understanding safe handling of materials
● modifying ink to affect the stiffness so that two colors can be printed on the same plate
● creating an a suite of unique monoprints
All materials provided – must be 18+
