SUMMARY:A foothold\, that is all - OPENING RECEPTION - Judy Rushin-Knopf
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening reception of A Foothold\, That Is All\, a solo exhibition by Chattanooga-based artist Judy Rushin-Knopf. We will be also hosting Open Artist Studios + printmaking demonstrations in the Community Printshop. More details TBA \nA foothold\, that is all\nMeanwhile\, I have found a ledge on which to catch my breath. Working repetitively and\ninstinctively – like breathing – I have produced this group of weavings that represent a\nshift towards a slower practice focused on sustainability\, depth\, and well-being. They\nare a bridge to something I can’t yet identify. \nFor over twenty years I have held seven convictions. They are my compass. \nSeven Convictions\n1.     The time invested in making the work conveys to those willing to invest the\ntime seeing the work\n2.     Repetitive honing by hand may imbue an artwork with more humanity than a\nlarge painterly gesture\n3. Small works are underrated\n4.     You can build something big from small parts (or cover large distances with\nsmall steps)\n5.     Painting is a long process of getting into and out of trouble\n6.     Allowing a work to lean into instability is an affirmation of life\n7.     I am inspired by the prospect of mutual generosity between the artist and\nviewer \n  \nBio\nRushin-Knopf’s work has been featured in numerous gallery and museum exhibitions nationally\nand resides in museum and book art collections including University of Kentucky Art Museum\,\nFlorida State University Museum of Fine Art\, Wofford College Museum of Fine Art\,\nMassachusetts Institute of Technology\, The Frick Fine Arts Library\, Harvard Fine Arts Library\,\nand the Kohler Art Library. She is represented by Ivy Brown Gallery in New York. Rushin-Knopf\nis also a collaborator with Carolyn Henne on the Comma project\, which produces boxed editions\nof small sculptural objects.
