In this workshop, students will learn the basics of the 1-layer screenprinting process. This includes learning how to prepare screens (degreasing, applying emulsion, exposing, and reclaiming) as well as creating transparencies, setting up registration, choosing ink, and printing! All materials will be provided, but students can bring items of fabric to print on. Printing on paper will be the focus of the workshop, but printing on fabrics can discussed for students who are interested.
Please email Rio with a black-and-white PNG of your design that you’d like to print before the workshop takes place. It must fit within an 8.5” x 11” sheet of paper.

All materials (other than t-shirts/totes) are provided and all experiences welcomed

About the Instructor:
Rio Ortiz is a digital illustrator and screenprinter, specifically with a focus in character development and narrative illustration. Her love of outer space, clowns, and fantasy bring forth a sense of whimsy and wonder across all of her work. She graduated from East Tennessee State University in 2023 with a BA in Studio Art and is currently in graduate school pursuing a Masters in Digital Marketing. She creates all of her screenprint work at Relay Ridge as a Printshop Member. Outside of art, Rio loves playing Dungeons & Dragons, crocheting, playing video games, and reading!
