Our focus in this workshop will be the non-adhesive binding structure of the pamphlet stitch and its many variations. Students will learn the fundamental binding skills that can be applied to a variety of book structures both traditional and experimental. Starting with a single-signature pamphlet, we will establish the basics then creatively expand into variations that include more elaborate stitches, double-signatures, cover wraps, gatefolds, or pockets. Everyone will leave with 5–6 soft cover, hand-sewn books that can be used as sketchbooks or given as gifts!
A range of fine art and decorative papers will be available to choose from, and students are also encouraged to bring their own paper if they have any they would like to incorporate into a personalized journal.
